Oxymed Mini 5 LPM is one of the most popular names in the Indian oxygen concentrator market whose credit goes to its promising specifications that even the well-established American concentrators lack.
Delivering oxygen at the flow rate of 0.5-5 LPM with oxygen purity level of more than 90% at all flow rates, this concentrator has the second largest dealer network in India after Philips Respironics. Its integrated nebulizer and the presence of a digital as well as a ball type flow type flow meter makes it unbeatable in the competition.
Imported from China, Oxymed concentrators are marketed and distributed by Mediquip Solutions LLP in India. The company manufactures portable as well as stationary oxygen concentrators and all of their products come with a guarantee and are hence trustworthy.
Read the following in-depth analysis on each aspect of Oxymed Mini 5 LPM to check if it matches your requirements. Feel free to jump on a particular section using the links given below:
What makes this concentrator revolutionary is its compact size. The machine is 20.27 inches high, 12.36 inches wide and 9.40 inches deep. The overall volume being 2355.05 cubic inches, Oxymed Mini 5 LPM is one of the smallest stationary oxygen concentrators.
Another remarkable feature of this machine which caught our eyes is how lightweight it is! Weighing just 13.9 Kgs, Oxymed Mini has won the race as even the most well-known concentrators such as Philips Everflo, Devilbiss 5 LPM, Yuwell 9F are heavier than it.
If you are looking for a concentrator that can be easily shifted from one location to another then Oxymed Mini can be the right option for you.
According to the company, Oxymed Mini 5 LPM consumes 390 W electricity. On the other hand, other concentrators like Nidek Nuvo Lite and Airsep Visionaire 5 claim that they consume only 290 W power. This seems to be a disappointing specification.
But, the power consumption test conducted by us had a different story to tell. Even at the flow rate of 5 LPM, the machine consumed approximately 228 W of power. This is even lower than Devilbiss 5 LPM and Evox 5 liter.
Oxymed Mini 5 LPM would thus save you from the burden of paying a heavy-electricity bill as it is one of the most power-efficient concentrators yet.
The best feature about this concentrator that turns the table is that it comes with a screen display. Unlike conventional oxygen concentrators that came only with manual flow meters, Oxymed Mini moved one step forward.
Located on the top of the front unit, the digital screen serves various purposes:
1. Flow setting: The current flow rate is reflected on the screen. The panel features digital buttons beside it through which oxygen flow rate could be increased or decreased at the interval of 0.5 LPM.
2. Timer: The users can set the time duration for which they have to use the machine through the buttons provided on the same panel. The time can be increased at an interval of 10 minutes.
3. Hour meter: Below the timer, there is an hour meter which reflects the total run time of the machine.
4. Defect Information: If there is any problem with the machine, the information gets reflected on the screen. For example, a message will be displayed on the screen if the filter needs to be replaced.
5. Oxygen Purity Analyzer: By simultaneously pressing the top two buttons, the oxygen purity analyzer will get displayed on the screen that would give real-time updates of oxygen purity level being displayed to the patient.
Oxymed Mini produces sound at 45 dB. Though it is high as compared to Nidek Nuvo Lite, according to the industry standards, it stands at par with other concentrators like Philips Everflo and Airsep Visionaire. As there is a tie between Oxymed Mini and other renowned oxygen concentrators when it comes to sound producing level, you must keep other factors in consideration before making a decision.
This oxygen concentrator is the best choice if you reside in an area where the altitude is less than 7500 feet. However, if you reside in altitude regions of more than 10,000 feet then you should go for Aisep Vsionaire 5 or Devilbiss 5 LPM.
The concentrator comes in black and white colour with an engaging LED screen on the top of the front panel. As most of the other components such as switch, circuit breaker, air and bacterial filter are located on the back of the unit, the machine looks chaos-free and hence more appealing.
Though it has wheels, there is no top handle to carry it which makes it a bit difficult to transport.
As you can see in the picture, the front wheels of Oxymed Mini are lockable which prevents the machine from slipping on the smooth floor.
Though it is an amazing feature, we feel that the wheels do not look durable enough and their quality is also not up to the mark.
A striking feature of Oxymed Mini that sets it apart from its rivals is that it comes with a digital flow regulator rather than a manual rotating knob. The oxygen flow is by default set at 5 LPM which can be decreased at the interval of 0.5 LPM through the +/- buttons.
Most of the concentrators either give a ball type flow meter or a digital flow meter. But this machine, keeping its head and shoulder above all, has integrated both of them.
The flow can be set on the digital screen using the +/- buttons and the ball of the ball type flow meter which is located at the left side of the machine gets automatically centered around the flow rate you have set.
Thus, the discrepancies that arise setting the ‘exact’ flow rate in the ball type flow meter does not come here as we can see the flow rate bold and clear on the screen.
Oxymed Mini keeps its promise to supply 90%+ oxygen purity level at all flow rates as confirmed in the test conducted by us using an external oxygen purity analyzer.
At the flow rate of 4 LPM, the machine is producing 94.4% pure oxygen.
And at the flow rate of 1-3 LPM, the machine is producing 95.6% pure oxygen.
A yet another striking feature of Oxymed Mini is that it comes with an inbuilt oxygen purity analyzer through which users can get to know the oxygen purity level that is being delivered to them. Not even costly American oxygen concentrators have this feature.
To reflect the oxygen purity analyzer on the LCD screen, press the top two buttons simultaneously.
If we go by the company's claims, the machine comes with five-stage filters which keeps away the majority of the impurities, bacterias and particulate matter up to 2.5 Microns.
Though the external intake air filter requires regular maintenance and cleaning, it is easily accessible and can be cleaned with soap and water.
A HEPA filter which is also located at the back of the device has to be replaced once it goes black. But, the good part is that it is user replaceable, so you won't have to take it to a service centre every time you need to replace it.
Like other popular oxygen concentrators, Oxymed Mini 5 LPM too comes with an Oxygen Purity Indicator. Whenever the oxygen purity level falls below 86%, the audio and visual alarm turns on, indicating that the patient needs to be immediately shifted to the emergency backup.
The oxygen outlet of the machine is located at its top unit. Oxygen tubing can be directly inserted into it if you do not require a humidifier in your oxygen therapy.
Unlike its close competitor Evox 5 LPM, the placement of the humidifier bottle holder is very convenient. Place the humidifier bottle in the plastic strap and attach the inlet of the cap with the oxygen outlet as shown in the picture. Finally, the cannula tubing has to be threaded to the outlet in the humidifier bottle cap.
Serving a multi-purpose, Oxymed Mini comes with a nebulizer as well. Just rotate the screw cap anticlockwise and connect it with cannula tubing. There you go. Nebulizer is ready to be used.
According to our test, it takes 38 seconds for the machine to reach 86% oxygen purity level at 5 LPM.
In total it takes 1 minute 25 seconds for the machine to reach its maximum prity level of 91.5% at flow rate of 5 LPM.
As the machine gets older, the warm-up time may increase up to 10 minutes.
TIn contrast to most other Chinese concentrators, Oxymed Mini 5 LPM comes with a three years warranty. This ensures that the product can be trusted and is made for long-term usage. The QR code located on the frontside of the machine can be scanned and the user can register for a 3 years warranty from there.
However, there is a drawback that most of the dealers ask the users to install it with a voltage stabilizer otherwise the warranty will get void.
The device comes with a power cord strap so that you can properly secure the cord when it is not in use.
The most disappointing thing about Oxymed Mini 5 LPM is that it does not have an FDA approval.
Nonetheless, the concentrator does have CE certification.
The MRP listed on the machine is Rs 60,900. According to our market research it will be available for around Rs. 55,000. However, the price range majorly depends on the demand and supply factor.
Oxymed Mini 5 LPM, with its extensive dealer network in India, not only meets the ever-increasing demand for high-purity supplemental oxygen, but also offers many unparalleled specifications, enriching the overall user experience.
The integrated digital and ball type flow meter, the light and compact design, and the excellent user-friendly screen display are the features that we all would want to have in our oxygen concentrator.
However, it is quite upsetting to know that it requires a voltage stabilizer or else our machine will not be eligible for the three year warranty.
Will I still buy the Oxymed Mini 5 LPM? Well, If I had a huge budget set out for this purpose, I would choose an FDA-approved American concentrator that does not have any preconditions for its warranty services.
But, if I have a budget of around Rs. 50,000, I would choose Oxymed Mini because it has been in the market for a long time and has a large number of satisfied consumers. In its present price range, no other machine can offer as many features as it offers.
