Does any company make a stationary oxygen concentrator that is over 10lpm? Or one that's 10lpm but low current draw and light easy to move? Does anyone make a portable that's over 5lpm?
Oxygen Times
Replied on: 2016-03-30 at 05:33:27
Hi Tony, 10 LPM is the highest flow available in Medical oxygen concentrators. Also, the maximum continuous flow available in portable oxygen concentrators (POCs) is upto 3 LPM only and following are POCs that provide pulse flow higher than 5LPM:
- SeQual Equinox
- SeQual Eclipse
- DeVilbiss iGo
- Philips Respironics SimplyGo
- Invacare Solo 2

Hi Pankaj, philips home oc can work for more than 24 hours continuously if you need to run it but the best practice is to give it rest of about 20-30 minutes after every 8 hours of operation.

Thanks. Earlier, a doctor gave me a supplier's contact for home based Nidek Nuvo Lite (5 LPM), they said 85,000 INR. While searching on net, I found out lots of suppliers providing the same model between 40k-45k. While we explained this, they said "could be china made, not original like us".

Thanks again. I contacted the supplier regarding this price difference once again, he said that the cost is higher because "the patient needs Nidek Bipap Ventilator Model-DPAP20 PLUS". I want to know what is a BIPAP? Is it something similar to oxygen concentrator or is it a different equipment?
Note: I am sorry, i am living abroad that is why it is difficult to get more information from them.

BiPAP stands for Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure device, this is mostly used when a patient is suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is a condition in which patients can not breathe during sleep because the muscles of throat relax (expand) too much causing obstruction in the airway. Positive airway pressure is required to open the blockage in order to avoid choking. A BiPAP machine provides assisted breathing by giving air with high pressure to open throat muscles so that the patient can breathe properly.
Oxygen concentrator is a different equipment used when oxygen saturation in blood drops below acceptable levels in patients suffering from lung diseases like COPD, ILD, etc.
In some conditions, both Oxygen Concentrator and BiPAP are used in combination to assist breathing while maintaining Oxygen saturation. Your father's prescription should clearly mention if he has been prescribed just supplemental Oxygen, BiPAP or both.
A branded 5LPM Oxygen Concentrator costs around 40-50k whereas a BiPAP with similar features as the model you mentioned can cost you anywhere between 80k to 1.20 Lacs in India.
