8 step guide to buy Oxygen Concentrator in India

Last modified: June 18, 2019

Have you been prescribed Oxygen and looking for a place to buy Oxygen Concentrator in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata or any other city in India? This 8 steps guide is for you.

Before going out in market there are a few things you should know to make the correct choice in choosing the right equipment provider and product.

1. Determine the Flow

Many people go out in market to buy Oxygen Concentrator (OC) without knowing their flow requirements. The flow is in Litres Per Minute (LPM) and is written on the doctor’s prescription.

There are chances that if you have been recently prescribed Oxygen, then you may need a Home Oxygen Concentrator with flow upto 5 LPM (the most commonly available oxygen concentrator in India).

2. Know the Type

Be clear whether you want a home oxygen concentrator or a portable one.

Don’t know which one to choose? Well, price can be a major deciding factor over here. A portable oxygen concentrator is 'atleast' 3 times more expensive than a home oxygen concentrator. Keep reading to know the Oxygen Concentrator price range in India.

3. OC Brands in India

  • AirSep and Philips Respironics are the most sold machines in market with Nidek Medical not being far behind.
  • Invacare has entered the Indian market not long back. They are catching up with the competition very fast.
  • DeVilbiss is rarely seen in the Delhi but quite dominant in Mumbai.
  • SeQual Portables are available with few AirSep importers after acquisition of AirSep by chart industries.
  • Inogen is yet to enter the Indian market. We could not find a single distributor of Inogen.
  • Apart from the above stated major brands, the Indian market is also dominated by various Chinese machines. The latest practice is that a lot of distributors are getting Chinese units imported under their own company’s name.

4. Models you can Choose from

The list of oxygen concentrators you will find in India:

Stationary Oxygen Concentrator:

  • Airsep VisionAire 5 - Read Review
  • Airsep NewLife Elite - Read Review
  • NewLife Intensity 10
  • Caire Companion 5 - Read Review

5. Oxygen Concentrator Price in India

No oxygen concentrator comes with Maximum Retail Price (MRP) written on its box. Have a rough idea of price of each type of oxygen concentrator before you go out to purchase.

  • 5 LPM Home Oxygen Concentrators usually start from some Chinese machines costing about ₹ 27,000 to high grade AirSep machines costing about ₹ 55,000.
  • High flow (8-10 LPM) Oxygen Concentrator price range varies from ₹ 70,000 to ₹ 1,15,000.
  • Pulse Flow Portable Oxygen Concentrators are expensive and they start from ₹ 1.5 lacs to ₹ 2.5 lacs.
  • Continuous Flow Portable Oxygen Concentrators are the most expensive oxygen concentrators with price ranging from ₹ 2.25 lacs to ₹ 3.5 lacs.

6. Get the Warranty Note

Getting after sales service is equally important as buying a new machine. To ensure that, get the warranty period and terms & conditions printed on the invoice.

Below you can find the warranty provided by each manufacturer:

  • Airsep: 2 years
  • Philips Respironics: 3 years
  • Invacare: 3 years with Home Service
  • Nidek Medical: 2 years with Home Service
  • Chinese machines offer 1-2 years of warranty

7. Check Oxygen Times Pre Delivery Inspection Checklist (PDI)

The most important step in the process. The Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) checklist contains many points that you might overlook if you are in hurry to purchase your Oxygen Concentrator. Just take out time to read / print our Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) for Oxygen Concentrators.

8. Beware of Malpractices

With the growing market and fierce competition, general malpractices are also increasing.

Very frequently we come across cases when doctors mentally force the patient to purchase the machine from a particular equipment provider and in return take commission from the companies despite strict rules by Medical Council of India.

We don’t want to go into details of how some medical professionals / dealers cheat the patients but whenever you are prescribed supplemental Oxygen (or any other medical equipment), search on web or use our Oxygen Concentrator Dealer finder tool - India.

And remember, when you go out in market, just use the printed copy of Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) checklist and you can purchase oxygen concentrator from any dealer in India without worrying about being cheated.

I want to gift the health centre in my village rub=n by an NGO with an oxygen concentrator as very often they run out of oxygen in the cylinders and have t wait for supply from the distributor in the nearby tow. Can you suggest what would be the best capacity for diverse use. What other equipment would they require to ensure that oxygen is always available at the health centre?
Oxygen Times
Replied on: 2017-12-05 at 22:56:28
Hi Joseph, for a health center you should buy the maximum LPM of oxygen provided by an oxygen concentrator. 10 LPM is the maximum capacity of oxygen that a concentrator can provide. You would need multiple nasal cannula for different patients to go along with it.

Hello oxygen times, there is a very good information for the starters to get to know about the oxygen concentrator but I got couple of questions , my granny was suffering from asthma she is getting treated in a hospital and the doctor suggested us to buy an oxygen concentrator and the pulse oximeter as she's getting less oxygen, when she's plugged with oxygen mask she's going around 92 and reduced to 85 without mask , the doctor suggested us to get the oximeter from the Devilbliss dealer, may I know which brand is more suitable for us to buy and what capacity is preferable for portable oxygen concentrator? or do you want me to consult the doctor to know about the capacity?, do I need to get an air purifier for curing asthma better? spoke to devil bliss guys regarding and they said they god service to get it repaired if there is any problem with the machine. do you want me to go with Devilbliss for this issue or choose something else what would you suggest? brand? capacity? air purifier needed?

Hi Sandeep, you can definitely go ahead with Devilbiss as they have quality products. Before buying, just make sure that there is a service center nearby. To suggest which oxygen concentrator you should buy you will have to tell us the Litre Per Minute (LPM) of oxygen prescribed by the doctor. Coming to your last question, an air purifier will definitely help in managing asthma better.

I have another query , what if we use both air purifier and oxygen concentrator simultaneously , as concentrator releasing oxygen is that the pure air and this purifier may suck this oxygen again, what do you think is that the right option to choose both or just a concentrator is enough.
Oxygen Times
Replied on: 2017-10-09 at 00:50:16
Hi Sandeep, you can use both concentrator and air purifier simultaneously as neither of them will affect the performance of the other. Just make sure there is at least 2 feet of gap between both the machines.

I want to buy a O2 concentrator for good health. The idea is to release the O2 in the rooms for improvement of health of my family. My wife and I definately would gain (COPD). as will our children and grandchildren. Approx area is 1000 sq ft. confirm if its a good idea.
Oxygen Times
Replied on: 2017-09-08 at 04:53:42
Hi Sudhir, there is no company that provides centralised oxygen supply for the entire home. Also, it is not recommended to use oxygen if you have not been prescribed by a physician as it could lead to oxygen toxicity. You should install air purifiers in your house to breathe quality air.
Sudhir
Replied from India on: 2017-09-08 at 20:54:05
My idea is to just release O2 in the rooms to improve the air quality. Delhi has high air pollution levels. Air purifiers already installed in most part of the flat. I think putting up the concentrater will definitely improve air quality and since the whole family uses the area and doors etc open frequently, there is no risk.

We would recommend Airsep Intensity 10. The most important parameter to look before buying an oxygen concentrator is that whether there is a service station of that concentrator nearby to your home or not.

Coming to your second question, if the oxygen requirement exceeds 5 LPM then you will have to buy a 8 LPM or 10 LPM oxygen concentrator. Some of the best high flow stationary oxygen concentrator are Airsep's Intensity 10, Nidek's Nuvo 8 or Invacare's Platinum 10.

Oxygen Times
Replied on: 2017-01-03 at 22:40:31
Hi Abhishek, ideally in the beginning, patients require oxygen concentrator with output up to 5 LPM and in most cases, ILD patients require a 10 LPM oxygen concentrator 2-3 years after oxygen is prescribed. You must consult your doctor about the LPM requirement of the patient before you purchase an oxygen concentrator.

Hi, My mother is a COPD patient and is on Oxygen Support. We have purchased a Philips Respironics Everflo concentrator for this purpose. My question to you is how do we gauge the purity/concentration level of the oxygen generated by the machine? Is this a version of the machine that comes with an indicator? Also, Can I get the philips oxygen concentrator support number and also repair support dealers in Navi Mumbai/Mumbai.

Replied on: 2016-11-16 at 03:53:04
Hi Indu, you can test purity of the machine using an oxygen analyser. The inbuilt oxygen monitor just gives a visual / audible indication if purity reaches below therapeutic level (85%). We don't have a database of service centres as of now.

Hi - We bought Inogen G3 from Nidek thinking that Nidek is official Inogen dealer in India - but it turns out they are not. Is there any recourse? The machine has broken down twice during the past year and Nidek won't let us pay for extended warranty (after the one year warranty runs out) - very disappointing dealer. We are afraid that next time the Inogen breaks down it will be out of warranty and we will need to invest in a new machine. Definitely will not be using Nidek - it was very wrong for them to claim they are official Inogen dealers when they are not.

We have a Philips Respironics EverFlo concentrator (the blue model, which goes up to 5lpm) bought in July 2015. It is in Ahmedabad. My wife used this till April 2016. We do not need it now because my wife underwent a lung transplant here in the US in May and is now free of oxygen. (Though it is a complicated surgery with some side effects, freedom for need for continuous oxygen use is a huge benefit!). We bought this machine for about Rs 48,000 in Ahmedabad and can give it at a lower price. If someone would like to buy it from us, please email me at sridhar@ei-india.com. We also have a Philips Respironics SimplyGo that we are not using (but that is here in the US with us)

The doctor who initially advised us asked us to budget USD 1 mi for the first year and USD 60,000 every subsequent year. For those who do not have insurance in the US, it is good to be mentally prepared for these numbers. We are now 6 months post the surgery. Our costs so far have been about $450,000 (all medical expenses, but not travel, stay, etc.) possibly because there haven't been any significant complications. It is not clear when one will be able to return to India after the surgery. It may require staying back in the US for a number of years assuming the visa is got.

Dear OmPrakash, it depends on how much supplemental oxygen you have been prescribed. If your doctor is telling you to buy a 10 LPM concentrator, then most probably your requirement is more than 5 LPM or he is expecting it to increase in future. Some of the top brands easily available in India are: AirSep, Philips Respironics, Invacare, Nidek and DeVilbiss Healthcare. Hope this helps.

Hi, I bought 5 LPM philips everflow for my mother who is a stage 4 lung cancer patient. We are giving 4 LPM from today. She is really tired as she was having breathing problem. Will using an oxygen concentrator help her live better. Will a person with less oxygen from lungs can live using oxygen concentrator. Please reply.

Hi Siji, using an Oxygen Concentrator will definitely help her to live better. In lung cancer, transport of Oxygen from lungs to blood decreases due to less surface area available for the gaseous exchange, so we need to give oxygen in high concentration to fulfil the oxygen requirement of the body. A person can live using oxygen concentrator throughout his life if the requirement doesn't increase beyond the limits due to progress of disease.

Maximum approved altitude of SeQual Eclipse, Equinox and DeVilbiss iGo is 13,123 feet while that of AirSep Freestyle is 12,000 feet. Hope this helps.

If you are looking for a wearable portable oxygen concentrator (POC) and you don't have to use it with a PAP device then you can go for either AirSep Freestyle 5 or Invacare XPO2. On the other hand, if you have a higher budget and looking for a cart roller POC with continuous flow options then you can go for Philips Respironics SimplyGo, SeQual Eclipse or Invacare Solo2. You can use are oxygen concentrator comparison tool for comparing these POCs. Hope this helps.

Hi. I am 37 years old and have been diagnosed with ILD. My doctor suggested me to buy Oxygen Concentrator and given me number of a dealer who can supply this to me. The dealer is having product from Precision company from USA ? Do you know this brand ? He is quoting Rs 67000 for this brand and Philips is available for Rs 40000 - 45000. Is it also good to buy used oxygen concentrator ?

Hi Vrajesh, Precision may be a good brand but we have never heard about it. About buying a used concentrator, it is not a bad idea if you can get proper purity checks from a service centre.

Hi Vrajesh, chinese concentrators are definitely less expensive than Philips and AirSep. Your can find a few dealers in Mumbai who sell these machines. As far as reliability is concerned, if you are lucky enough the machine will last forever, if not you may have to purchase a new one within an year.

The machine your mother would need depends on how much Oxygen she has been prescribed by the physician. Most patients require 5 LPM oxygen concentrators. Now coming to your 2nd question, Philips has one 5 LPM home oxygen concentrator called Everflo and one portable oxygen concentrator called SimplyGo in Indian market.

In case of ILD why do Doctors prefer Oxygen Cylinders and not Oxygen Concentrators?
Oxygen Times
Replied on: 2015-10-01 at 12:02:35
Hi Hetal, thats not always true. AirSep's 10 LPM oxygen concentrator (Intensity 10) works really well for ILD patients having oxygen requirement between 2 LPM - 10 LPM because of its high output pressure (20 psi) unlike many other concentrators in market. In extremely rare cases, oxygen cylinder is the only option left for patients with requirement beyond 10 LPM. Hope that helps.

The physician usually prescribes Oxygen in LPM but still if you want to try there are a lot of dealers out there who rent Oxygen concentrators. Some dealers also provide the machine on trial basis for a day or two.

My mother is asthmatic, she gets exhausted very soon and can't even work for a while. The doctor has suggested to use OC for 2 hours daily for atleast 10 days by which oxygen will increase in her body as main problem with her is lack of oxygen.
Oxygen Times
Replied on: 2015-09-10 at 02:23:06
Hi Ankit, the doctor must have prescribed Oxygen Concentrator for 10 days to observe whether your mother feels better with it. If she does, then the doctor will most likely prescribe her Oxygen on regular basis to maintain Oxygen levels in her body.

My father is on continuous oxygen for 24 hours. Will the Oxygen concentrator work 24*7 and will it work with full efficiency? Should I buy or not?
Oxygen Times
Replied on: 2015-09-09 at 03:10:49
Yes, there is no problem in using Oxygen Concentrator 24*7 provided there is no power outage. However, it is highly recommended to keep spare Oxygen cylinder as a backup since there can be a power / machine failure anytime. Also it is recommended to give machine rest of about 20 minutes after every 8 - 10 hours of operation.
